DJI has wasted no time in improving its first 360-degree camera. Launched last week, the Osmo 360 directly competes with the Insta360 X5, which Insta360 has just refreshed with a new limited edition variant. Moreover, it looks like the GoPro Max 2 is almost upon us based on recent teasers.
In the meantime, DJI has now delivered post-launch firmware and Mimo app updates that are said to improve the Osmo 360 in various areas. On the one hand, firmware v01.01.06.20 introduces SuperNight mode for capturing 6K or 8K videos at 24, 25 or 30 FPS in low-light environments with improved colour handling too. Additionally, the same update adds 5K and 50/60 FPS recording options in the Single Lens video mode when shooting in a 4:3 aspect ratio.
The new firmware also integrates what DJI describes as an 'Endurance Mode'. Apparently serving to extend battery life, Endurance Mode seems tied to the Osmo 360's Panoramic Video mode for the time being. Unfortunately, it is unclear at this stage in what ways this new mode improves battery life. Separately, firmware v01.01.06.20 adds support for the Osmo Action GPS Bluetooth Remote Controller too (curr. $73 on Amazon).
Meanwhile, Mimo app version 2.3.1 introduces Pro Colour Grading presets, support for five aspect ratios, mirror-flipping for recording selfie content, and a new watermark positioning tool. Apparently, the app update brings direct sports data tracking and a cadence sticker for runners, too.
