The race between Anbernic and Ayaneo to see who can release a new compact horizontal gaming handheld is still on after the pair shwocased similar devices within a few days of each other last week. Just yesterday, Anbernic published an extensive video showcasing the emulation capabilities of the RG476H. Now, Ayaneo has responded in kind with a new Pocket AIR Mini-related video that we have embedded below.
Ultimately, Ayaneo repeats a lot of what it has announced previously, such as the presence of a 4.2-inch and 1,280 x 960 pixel display with a 4:3 aspect ratio. Apparently an entirely custom panel, the display will always sit within black bezels. However, Ayaneo has now confirmed that the Pocket AIR Mini will be available in Aurora Black, Retro White and Retro Power shells.
Unfortunately, it remains to be seen what chipset Ayaneo has installed. The company's CEO has indicated that the Pocket AIR Mini will retail for less than CNY 999 in China though, which currently converts to around $140. Thus, we would expect to see the Pocket AIR Mini line up with a less powerful alternative to the Dimensity 8300 that graces some of Anbernic's handhelds like the RG557 (curr. $299 on Amazon).
