Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch (Penryn), at $3,149 (direct), isn't the first laptop to undergo an Intel brain transplant in the form of a next-generation Penryn processor , but it's among the most sizzling we've seen so far. At the heart of this MacBook Pro, the 2.6-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T9500 CPU and 4GB RAM played a pivotal role in tearing up performance tests, including a compelling 15 percent increase in battery life. Although it didn't go through any major design changes, the MacBook Pro 15-inch delivers more battery life, better performance scores, and is still the best-looking mainstream laptop in the market.

The Apple MacBook Pro is a decent contender against other notebooks in the 15.4" segment with quality display and powerful internals. Having the upper hand against other computers being able to legally run both OSX and Vista does give it some strength, but I am not sure that will outweigh the disadvantage of leg griddle capabilities.

When today's laptops start to appear in museums in a few decades' time, Apple's range is guaranteed a place, with the MacBook Pro a case in point. We first saw the MacBook Pro over a year ago (web ID: 84908), and the exterior has changed little since Apple first adopted Intel's architecture. But Apple has been busy with the internals, with plenty of worthwhile changes that make the MacBook better value. First is the screen, with LED backlighting. This, at least in theory, means better battery life, although there's no noticeable difference to panel quality. Whites are clean and colours vibrant. And, befitting a machine that will find its way into the hands of professional photographers, the panel is mercifully free of a reflective gloss finish, although you can specify one for no extra charge if you wish. There's more good news in store with the 120GB of hard disk capacity, which will be a practical size for business users, although those working with significant amounts of media might want to upgrade to 200GB for £94 exc VAT.

Apple MacBook Pro fanatics know the drill. Every six months or so, their eyes gleam in anticipation of earth-shattering upgrades. With Intel's launch of its Santa Rosa platform, the foregone conclusion was that the MacBook Pros would get the added speed from a component transplant. But what about other desired features? Would the MacBook Pro have built-in Wireless WAN? A Blu-ray drive? An LED display? Well, one out of three isn't bad. The Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch (LED) embeds a new display technology called LED backlighting, not to mention an array of processing parts that range from a new Intel Core 2 Duo processor to a new graphics core from nVidia. You won't notice much of a visual difference with the LED screen, but the performance enhancements may be enough to make MacBook Pro owners out of some who had been undecided.

Apple gives its high-end notebook a speed and graphics boost and a stunning LED display. You can't tell by looking at the sexy, familiar aluminum design that the MacBook Pro has undergone several significant improvements that elevate it from a very good machine to one that's arguably the best in its class. Aimed at mobile professionals who want power and performance in an easy-to-carry design, the MacBook Pro features a blazing-fast Intel Core 2 Duo processor, powerful Nvidia graphics, outstanding battery life, and one of the best software suites around. Starting at a reasonable $1,999, the MacBook Pro is definitely a dream machine for creative types seeking a notebook for work and play. At just 5.4 pounds and an inch thick, the MacBook Pro has a bright and colorful 15.4-inch display, making it the thinnest and lightest mainstream notebook on the market--again. Everyday productivity and video watching is a joy.

While the core element of the MacBook Pro hasn't changed, Apple has moved to upgrade and improve certain elements of the laptop. So should you upgrade now, does the new features give it a 9/10? We get working to find out. Choosing when to upgrade your computer is always a hard one. Chances are you'll buy one and then new features come out and that's what most likely happened here. Following hot on the heals of new specs for Apple's MacBook Pro range being announced earlier in the year, the laptop has had yet more upgrades, although not to the design of the model. As before the MacBook Pro retains its lightweight aluminium chassis, there is a 1.3MP iSight webcam above the screen and it weights in around the 2.5kg mark. New however to this mix, is the introduction of a faster processor; still Intel Dual Core, although now Santa Rosa and with speeds up to 2.4GHz.

Mail.

But that’s ignoring the point of the Apple MacBook Pro, the best laptop we think Apple has ever made. Usually, when reviewing a product, we come across a design flaw or issue that gives us pause. Not so this time. That doesn’t mean that this Apple MacBook Pro is perfect. The ability to show off high-def video would have been nice, and a Blu-ray drive (indeed, any improvement on the eight-speed SuperDrive) would have made an excellent inclusion. But the Apple MacBook Pro is fast, looks good, and battery life is substantial. Oh, and did we mention the screen?

Apple has been hyping the iPhone like crazy for the past few months. Meanwhile, without much hype at all, its range of Macbook laptops has been quietly flying off the shelves and helping the company rack up record profits. Pros: Attractive design; good performance and features; Cons: Expensive, but still comparable to PC laptops; Overall: It may not be Apple’s most high-profile product, but the Macbook Pro is a top-of-the-range laptop

The good: Updated CPUs and graphics without an updated price; LED-backlit display for better battery life; 802.11n support. The bad: Minimal configuration options; only 90 days of toll-free technical support; still no media card reader. The bottom line: Apple's 15-inch MacBook Pro gets a solid under-the-hood upgrade for better performance and longer battery life, allowing the MacBook Pro to put enough distance between itself and the lower-end MacBook to justify its higher price.

Apple MacBook Pro Rev 3
Source: TBreak English
With the latest update from Apple that was released a couple of weeks back, the Macbook Pro is now on its third revision now. I owned the original Core Duo based MBP but never felt the need to upgrade to the second revision which was mainly a CPU upgrade to Intel's Core 2. This latest update certainly offers a lot more more reasons to upgrade. Before I begin, this is not a full blooded review of the MBP. Instead, its more of a quick take- comparing the new features to the older revisions. The first thing that strikes you off about the new MacBook Pro is the incredibly bright screen. The LED lighting certainly causes the whites to appear much whiter, however, at the brightest settings, you can see that the lighting is slightly uneven. On a totally white background, my particular unit was bleeding from the top and bottom. Lowering the brightness- which you certainly will to avoid theHDR/squinting effect, makes the uneven lighting disappear.

Santa Rosa in the house
Source: Ars Technica English
If you focus merely on the clock speed, the difference between the Rev. B and Rev. C machines is truly miniscule. After all, we're talking about a 70MHz speed bump. However, the performance gains with the Rev. C MacBook Pro belie the modest megahertz burp, due in no small part to its 800MHz front-side bus. Subjectively, using the two laptops feels about the same. They're both snappy and leave nothing to be desired when it comes to both everyday and special-case usage. Bootup times on the Santa Rosa MacBook Pro are a bit faster, as mentioned before. To me, the biggest difference is the high-resolution screen. If your eyes can take it—and I'm approaching the age where I have to hold things farther away from my eyes to read them—the extra $100 for the 1920x1200 display is money well-spent.

Apple MacBook Pro 15" with Intel Santa Rosa Review
Source: Notebookreview.com English
This is an excellent upgrade to the MacBook Pro, I'm extremely satisfied with it so far. I'm new to Mac computers, new to OS X, but I am one happy switcher. The MBP would be an excellent choice for anyone looking to purchase a performance laptop, or even desktop replacement. Combine that performance with Apple's sexy design, and the MBP is a great purchase.

NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT: The NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT is the DirectX 10 capable successor of the GeForce Go 7600 GT GPU for laptops. Depending on the used graphic memory and the clock speed,  the performance is between the 7600 GT and 7900 GS video card.

Just as the performance class 1 these cards are comparable with video cards for desktop computers with the same name. The newest games should run with some reduced details fluently (in moderate resolutions).

>> Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.

Intel Core 2 Duo: This is the Core Duo and Core Solo successor with a longer pipeline and 5-20% more speed without more power consumption. As an addition to the Core Duo design there exists a fourth decoder, an amplified SSE-unit and an additional arithmetical logical unit (ALU).

The Core 2 Duo for laptops is identical to the desktop Core 2 Duo processors but the notebook-processors work with lower voltages (0.95 to 1188 Volt) and a lower Frontside bus clock (1066 vs 667 MHz). The performance of equally clocked notebooks is 20-25% lower than Desktop PCs because of the lower Frontside bus clock and the slower hard disks.

T7700:
>> Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

15.4": 15 inch display-variants are the standard and are used for more than the half of all notebooks.  15.4 inch display with 16:10 are the standard for notebook displays.
The reason why so many people like displays with medium size is, that this size is not exhausting for the eyes, does not need too much current and the laptops can be kept quite compact.
>> To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

2.5 kg: This notebook is lighter than the average of all notebooks. It is too heavy for sub-notebooks. 14 inch displays are normal for this class of weight.

84.95%: This rating is to be considered as average, because the amount of notebooks with better ratings is about equal like the amount with worse ratings.

>> Further information can be found in our Notebook Purchase Guide.
