The Acer Aspire V5-431 is a decent desktop replacement option with acceptable battery backup. Students who live in hostels, and working professionals who are on the move, will find it appealing due to its excellence in productivity applications and decent multimedia performance. The speakers perform admirably, but the AV experience is soured by the poor display. Gaming is not this machine's forte, so if that is your requirement, you can go for the similarly-priced ASUS X53T instead. The laptop is available at a street price of Rs 29,000, with a 1-year international warranty and free transit Insurance.

The Acer Aspire V5-431 is priced at Rs. 28,015. If you have been looking at plain specs, the Pentium 987 processor would have already deterred you from getting this product. However, in the real world scenario, if you need a lightweight, portable laptop for office work like typing, web browsing and your personal entertainment needs, like watching movies et al, then the V5-431 will not disappoint you one bit.

At $550, the Acer Aspire V5 171-6867 offers competitive processing speeds, a sharp display and Webcam, easy portability, responsive keyboard and touch-pad inputs, comprehensive port and connectivity options (including Bluetooth), and a generous amount of hard drive storage. True, gamers will need a faster processor and better graphics—and we found fault with fan noise and the V5’s relatively short battery life.

We really have to wonder why Acer decided to release this ultraportable. The $549 Aspire V5-171-6867 offers plenty of pep at a low price, but that matters little when the battery dies so quickly. It also doesn't help that this Acer has a wonky touchpad and runs hot on the bottom. Unless you like playing find-the-outlet when you're out and about, choose another lightweight laptop.

The Acer Aspire V5 proves that there’s room in 2012 for ultraportable laptops that aren’t technically ultrabooks. Priced between $500 and $550, Acer’s new laptop is a few hundred dollars cheaper than most comparable ultrabooks, but it’s just as light and portable, if not quite as thin. Honestly, I’ve never understood why Intel sets limits on how thick a laptop can be to wear the ultrabook label, but there’s no limit on weight, which is much more important.

For those that want some top of the line performance while not suffering in the portability and ease of use department — you could certainly do worse. The battery life barely managing 5 hours no matter the task was a problem with the small battery however. For a few more dollars you could get a bigger screen and better battery life with similar performance. Do you need the lightweight and small size? If so this is the notebook for you.

The Acer Aspire V5 is no powerhouse. It’s also doesn’t offer outstanding endurance, or a great display or groundbreaking design. The V5 is relying on two features: It’s inexpensive, and it’s light. These facts provide a reasonable argument for buying a V5. Few options exist in the world of budget ultraportables, and those competitors are going to have few significant advantages over the V5.

With all of the coverage we've done of ultrabooks in recent months, it's easy to forget that the big vendors are still out there plugging away with more basic, fundamental designs. While I try to approach my reviews without much bias, or at the very least leave that bias checked at the door, I'll admit I haven't had the best impressions of Acer's products when I've reviewed them, and I certainly never imagined I'd ever buy one for myself.

If you're in the market for an 11-inch notebook, you could do much worse than the Aspire V5-171-6869. It packs some of the most robust specs amongst machines with its form factor, including a Core i5 processor and 500GB of storage, and we think its keyboard is comfortable considering the limited space. But if you have a little more room in your backpack (and wallet), you can do better with a bigger machine, as you can expect longer battery life and a roomier keyboard.

The Acer Aspire V5-571 is tough to recommend because it has so few qualities that would make it recommenable. The screen is poor; the build quality is average; the keyboard and touchpad need better tactile feedback; the design is boring; the speakers are subpar; the fan is noisy; and lastly it's not that inexpensive at $600. The thin design is overrated and makes up for none of these pitfalls.

With ultraportable laptops being all the rage recently, it's no surprise that Acer is trying to beat the rest of the crowd by releasing the Aspire V5-171-6605, a cheaply-priced competitor. It's not often that we see full-fledged under-$500 notebooks, and, when we do, they're usually cheaply constructed and don't perform well, making them difficult to take seriously.Although it's a little slow by today's standards, this under-$500 laptop is rich in connectivity and other options, and its Dolby-enhanced audio sounds good. It's a great buy if you don't need a lot of graphics and gaming muscle.

Budget-priced desktop replacements typically don't engender high expectations, and the Acer Aspire V5-471-6569 performs admirably for what it is. Despite its less-than-stellar performance and the tactile issues surrounding its keyboard and touchpad, one can hardly wag a finger given the laptop's good design and sub-$500 price tag. For users willing to shell out the extra cash, our Editors' Choice for entry-level desktop replacements, the Sony VAIO E15, is better and more nimble. The Acer Aspire V5-571-6869 provides good performance for a low price. This $529 15-incher is also thinner and lighter than the bargain notebook competition. However, the battery life could be better and the design is bland. In this price range, we prefer the $599 Dell Inspiron 15R. Yes, it's bulkier, but it offers a more attractive design, a better keyboard, and longer battery life, making it worth the $70 premium over the Acer.

The budget category is a difficult one to shop in because it's easy to give up core functionality in the pursuit of a lower price tag. Thankfully, the Acer Aspire V5-571-6869 doesn't require that sort of Faustian bargain. The Editors' Choice Sony VAIO E15 may offer better graphics and multimedia performance, but the Acer Aspire V5-571-6869 offers similar processing capabilities and a slightly better battery life, and costs $100 less. While the Acer Aspire V5-571-6869 may not knock your socks off, it is still a well-built laptop and solid performer in a category where neither is a given.

Touch on a budget. Acer's touchscreen-equipped Aspire V5-571P-6499 is a slim and affordable, yet stylish 15.6-inch notebook featuring a low-voltage Intel Core i5 processor, a 500GB conventional hard drive, and 4GB RAM. For the past few years we've been impressed by Acer's 15-inch Aspire laptops—not for their looks, but for their ability to deliver above-average performance and features for a budget price.A thrifty price and big, responsive touch screen make the Acer Aspire V5-571P-6499 a pleasant way to make your acquaintance with Windows 8. It's also surprisingly slim for a 15-inch budget notebook, but miscellaneous gripes keep it from perfection.

The Acer Aspire V5 is a pretty sleek laptop at first glance. But don’t be fooled by its silky-smooth silver exterior – there’s not a whole lot going on inside this laptop. Sure, it’s got its strengths: the touchscreen is responsive and smooth, and video looks and sounds pretty good. But it’s got a heck of a lot more weaknesses, such as poor overall performance, lower-than-average battery life, a strangely loud fan, and a noticeably low screen resolution.

In many ways the Acer Aspire V5-571P-6499 is a satisfying Windows 8 notebook, combining an accurate touch screen, good performance and robust audio. Still, with an anemic battery life of just over 4 hours, you won't want to leave home without the power brick. (Fortunately, you likely won't be traveling much with this 15-inch system.) Another strike against the V5-571P is its wonky touchpad, which had some trouble with Widows 8 gestures.

The Acer Aspire V5 is only competitive as an entry-level laptop. Jacking the price up to $730 without addressing battery life or performance has predictable results. Touch is the justification for this model’s unusually high price, yet Acer hasn’t made any effort to integrate the touch experience into the laptop. The screen is too far away to reach comfortably, and the laptop is too large and heavy to constantly move about.

There aren’t many laptops that cost less than £600 and include a touchscreen. It's no surprise to see Acer pushing prices down, so if you want to take advantage of Windows 8's touch-optimised interface then the Aspire V5 Touch is an obvious choice The touchscreen pushes up the price, but the V5 Touch is pretty well built and provides perfectly respectable performance. Its weaknesses are the narrow viewing angles and the paltry battery.

The Acer Aspire V5-571-6891 is an interesting beast. It has everything you'd want in a $500 laptop, minus a long battery life. Its pricing recalls the netbooks of 2008-2011, but it's so much more powerful than any of those, with a much larger screen. The budget Toshiba Satellite C655-S5542 is less expensive than the V5-571-6891 by $99, but you give up USB 3.0, HDMI, 3GB of memory, and quite a bit of performance due to a Celeron processor. For $500, it's surprising to find a latest-generation Intel Core processor, 4 to 6GB of memory, a 500GB hard drive, large screen, and a full keyboard and Windows-8 compliant trackpad It balances its thinness and large screen well, to the point that it is quite portable around the house or campus. It's a lot more modern than the Asus U56E-BBL6, which uses a second-generation Intel Core processor, is bigger and heavier, and doesn't come with Windows 8. The Acer Aspire V5-571-6891 meets the requirements for the basic user, with extra flourishes like a numeric keypad, good sound, and exceeds expectations for a budget laptop. Therefore we award the V5-571-6891 our Editors' Choice for budget laptops.

The Aspire V5 really isn't built for demanding tasks like video editing or gaming, but it will handle the essential Web browsing, social networking and some of the lighter-weight apps from the Windows 8 store without too much trouble. It's hardly a powerhouse, but for £430 you'd be wrong to expect it to be. The poor screen colours can be rescued slightly in software, but it's not a good display by any means.

The Acer Aspire V5-571 uses a second-generation Core i3 processor but has enough muscle to handle medium to slightly heavyweight applications. Rest assured, multitasking (multiple light applications) with antivirus running in the background will be a breeze. However, intensive tasks such as advanced photo editing using Photoshop or LIghtroom will make this laptop stutter. At an MRP of Rs 30,899, the Aspire V5-571 is quite reasonably priced, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t look elsewhere. There are models that offer better value for money, such as the Lenovo Essential G580—it costs almost as much as the Aspire V5-571 but runs the latest-generation Core i3 processor. Also, if you can stretch your budget by a few thousand rupees, your options can include models with discrete graphics and a larger hard drive.

The Acer Aspire V5 Touch is a laptop of compromises. Low power, low battery life and a poor keyboard in exchange for a budget price and excellent Windows 8 support with a good touchscreen and trackpad. It's not the best touchscreen laptop for under £500 by any means - we'd definitely be inclined to go for one of the Asus VivoBooks. But if what you want is a 15-inch touchscreen Windows 8 laptop for the home, it'll work. It's just a shame about the horrible keyboard.

Acer's V5-171-6675 offers speedy performance, a comfortable keyboard and great portability at a budget-friendly price. You won't find a more feature-rich 11-inch machine for $449. However, unless you plan on using this Acer mostly in your living room or near an outlet, we don't recommend it. Less than 4 hours of juice is just sad. If you're willing to spend a little more, we'd get the $499 ASUS Q200.

The V5 Touch doesn’t know quite where it fits, it’s not a performance powerhouse but neither is it a budget laptop. The touchscreen functionality, keyboard and trackpad make for a great user experience, but it does feel like corners have been cut to accommodate the premium aspects of the laptop. For £600, we’re not sure all the sacrifices - particularly the mediocre battery and average screen - were always worth it. For basic tasks such as writing and browsing, you’ll be happy enough, but if you’re hoping to navigate Windows 8 using touch you may find some of its rivals offer a smoother experience.

There's a fair lot of good to be said for the Acer Aspire V5 Touch from a specs point of view. For the money there's a whack of power on offer and that'll make this machine an attractive prospect, particularly as - despite its bulk and 2.3kg weight - there's scope to transport it and make the most out of touch-based Windows 8. However everything's just a bit slow to get moving: it takes too long to boot up or wake from sleep, and delays in loading up software seem unfounded, given the specification. The so-so screen resolution is also met with a washed-out, display with a limited viewing angle that's just altogether average.

We’ve seen a lot of systems come through the PC Labs with touch screens—tablets, convertible PCs, all-in-one desktops, and touch-friendly ultrabooks. The Acer Aspire V5-571PG-9814 offer the best all-around processing and graphics performance of any of the 14- and 15-inch touch-screen laptops we've seen in recent months, but packages it in a bland design with middling features.

While it fell short in battery life and doesn't impress with its bland looks and middling port selection, the Acer Aspire V5-571PG-9814 does offer the best all-around processing and graphics performance of any of the 14- and 15-inch touch-screen laptops we've seen in recent months. While raw performance isn't enough to take the Editors' Choice from the Asus VivoBook S400CA-UH51, it is enough to recommend it to anyone shopping for a reasonably priced touch-enabled Windows 8 laptop.

The Acer Aspire V5-571PG-9814 packs fairly robust specs and graphics performance into a sleek package. For $999, consumers walk away with a touch screen notebook that can run some of the more taxing games on the market. However, we'd hope for a sharper and brighter display at this price, and you get only 3.5 hours of battery life.

This is an inexpensive touchscreen laptop with decent speed and features. At 14in, it's not too big or heavy to carry around on a daily basis, and it's comfortable enough to use for long typing and Web browsing sessions. The touchscreen adds an extra bit of versatility to the unit, too. A good unit for the home or the classroom.

The Acer Aspire V5-471P is an ideal machine for those who are looking at an entry-level Windows 8 machine with a touchscreen. Students are the first candidates that come to mind. At Rs. 39,139 we think it is a tad expensive specially considering an older processor and issues with the display and the battery life. Under Rs. 35,000 this would make for a good purchase if you can overlook its issues. We would really like it if they bundled an Ivy Bridge generation chip. If you want to run heavier applications then you should probably look at Core i5 version of this laptop.
