The new AMD Ryzen 4000-powered Dell G5 15 Special Edition gaming laptop can now be purchased from the OEM’s online store. However, the 8-core, 16-thread Ryzen 9 4900H APU is still missing from the lineup. AMD executive Frank Azor has detailed how a 120 Hz display option will be coming in August for the Dell G5 15 SE.

Dell US now has four laptops from the brand-new G5 15 Special Edition (5505) range available for shoppers looking for one of the best possible choices of a gaming-oriented AMD Ryzen 4000 laptop. Two Renoir APUs are currently available: The 6-core Ryzen 5 4600H and the 8-core Ryzen 7 4800H. With prices ranging from US$879.99 to US$1,299.99, customers can select from different RAM and storage amount choices and pick from 802.11ac and 802.11ax Wi-Fi connectivity.

There’s no doubting that Dell is offering reasonable configuration options for the Ryzen 4000 G5 15 SE laptops, but there will be many gamers out there who would love to try out the previously promoted AMD Ryzen 9 4900H SKU. However, that particular device is still MIA, although there has been mention of it turning up in the second half of 2020 or even at some point in June. The vaunted APU actually featured in a Dell device in a recent benchmark leak along with AMD’s Radeon RX 5600M GPU, so it could be possible that the company is putting the final touches on the Ryzen 9 4900H-based laptop.

AMD executive Frank Azor has revealed that there will be further configuration options for the Dell G5 15 Special Edition laptop further on down the line. In a recent blog post where he discussed the advantages of AMD technologies such as SmartShift (“up to 14 percent more performance averaged across select games”) and FreeSync (“smooth, tear- and stutter-free gaming”), the Chief Architect of Gaming Solutions also mentioned that a 120 Hz panel is expected to be offered in August. Currently, the G5 15 SE can come with either a 60 Hz or 144 Hz display.
