Sony releases the a6600, its new APS-C flagship camera

The a6600 is the latest in its series of Sony APS-C mirrorless cameras. This device has a 24.2MP Exmor sensor and the latest BIONZ X processor. It is capable of the Real-time Tracking and Eye autofocus (AF) modes for which its OEM won a 2019 EISA award recently. On top of this, it also has Fast Hybrid AF, a combination that has led Sony to claim that the a6600 is the fastest focusing mirrorless core on the market today.

The Sony a6600 also boasts a 3-inch tilting touchscreen to interact with and control its footage. It is also capable of recording in 4K at 30p; 5-Axis SteadyShot stabilization; slow-motion at as low as 11 frames per second and with an ISO of 100 to 32000, and a 4D FOCUS mode with 425 Phase-Detect (PD) points. The a6600 also has a Gammas XGA 2.36million Dot OLED viewfinder.

Sony have also launched the new, entry-level a6100 camera. It compromises on the company's legendary in-body stabilization and Eye AF, as well as the advanced recording profiles S-Log2/3 and HLG (which are found in the a6600), for a reduced weight. However, it does pack the 425-point PD, focus speed, image sensor and processor found in its higher-end counterpart.

These releases would be nothing without the new lenses to go with them. On this occasion, they comprise the E 16-55mm f/2.8 G and E 70-350mm f/4.5-6.3 G OSS interchangeable attachments. They are a compact fast-zoom lens with a focal length equivalent to a 24-82.5mm range and a particularly lightweight (only 1.38 pounds) telephoto lens with an range that translates to 105-525mm respectively.

These new cameras and lenses are to be sold through B&H Photo Video. They will become available from October to November 2019 (starting with the E 16-55mm f/2.8 G lens), and start at US$748 for the a6100.
