With yesterday's update, Opera Browser and Opera GX received a set of AI-powered tools. Now in a public testing stage, these features include sidebar access to ChatGPT and ChatSonic, as well as smart AI Prompts, which allow the user to shorten or explain the selected paragraph, word/expression, or entire page/article.

Now based on Chromium 111, Opera 97 and the Opera GX spinoff introduced a powerful set of new AI tools for all their users. Although these tools are not enabled by default and they are considered to be in early access testing for now, they work great and is very easy to enable them and get started. These tools are AI Prompts and sidebar access to both ChatGPT and ChatSonic.

According to Opera's blog post on this update, the aforementioned AI tools "are set to transform your browsing experience: you’ll not just experience the future of the web, but browse with superpowers." While ChatGPT and ChatSonic can be used in the sidebar with all the capabilities of their web-based versions, the AI Prompts allow the user to quickly shorten or rephrase paragraphs, explain words, or create posts for social media based on the selected page section.

Unfortunately, those new to ChatGPT and ChatSonic will have to create accounts with those services. Thankfully, free accounts are available in both cases.

On desktops, Opera Browser and Opera GX are available in over 40 languages for Windows, MacOS, and Linux (only Opera Browser for now). The AI-powered tools are not available for the mobile versions yet.
