It seems Garmin's next inReach device is close to receiving a full global release. After briefly turning up in an official advert that was quickly pulled, the inReach Mini 3 has now surfaced on Reddit courtesy of Redditor u/HMITCHR. Apparently, said Redditor was able to purchase a retail unit locally, which suggests Garmin will be launching the device later this week.
In the meantime, u/HMITCHR has posted hands-on photos highlighting not only Garmin's inReach Mini 2 (curr. $259.99 on Amazon) successor but also how it compares with the original inReach Mini. Ultimately, little visually separates the inReach Mini 3 even from the older inReach Mini. Garmin has included a much larger display this time around though that is also a colour panel that supports touch input.
While the inReach Mini 3 is thicker and heavier at 122 g, u/HMITCHR has observed that Garmin may have included solar charging capabilities, too. Moreover, the company's next inReach communicator integrates satellite maps navigation that are also topographically accurate. u/HMITCHR adds that Garmin has equipped the inReach Mini 3 with upgraded speakers too, without doing away with core functionality like emergency calling, location sharing and satellite messaging using the inReach network.
Not only that, but the same Redditor alleges that a local retailer was selling the inReach Mini 3 Plus alongside the regular Mini 3. Reportedly, the inReach Mini 3 will start at $449. By contrast, the inReach Mini 3 Plus was said to be available for $499 with photo and audio messaging capabilities thrown in to justify its $50 price increase relative to the current inReach Mini 2. Regardless, both models will be more expensive than Garmin's current compact inReach communicator.
