After a flurry of last-minute leaks, Garmin has now updated its inReach product stack with two new Mini-branded satellite communicators. As expected, the company has delivered not just a successor to the inReach Mini 2 (curr. $249 on Amazon) but also the older inReach Mini Plus.
While the inReach Mini 3 series retains the overall look of past releases, it does so with numerous upgrades to elevate the overall user experience. For instance, both models feature a 1.88-inch display that outputs at 306 x 230 pixels with full colour and touchscreen support. As a result, one can use the inReach Mini 3 or the inReach Mini 3 Plus to type out messages on the Garmin Messenger app using a built-in keyboard and satellite connectivity.
Please note that one must obtain an inReach subscription to this functionality and many others on both devices. As it stands, Garmin offers multiple subscription plans up to and including a Premium tier that runs to $59.99 per month. Setting that aside, the inReach Mini 3 series delivers up to 14 days of battery life with IP67 certification against dust and water and emergency response integration using the Iridium satellite network.
Livetrack sharing is also supported, as is tracback routing and Garmin Weather. Fundamentally, the main differences between the two new models are photo and voice messaging support for the inReach Mini 3 Plus, for which Garmin levies a $50 surcharge. The inReach Mini 3 and inReach Mini 3 Plus are available to order today for $449.99 and $499.99, respectively, with shipments set to
