Counterpoint Research's latest global best-selling smartphone list of Q2 2024 reveals that the iPhone 15 had a very noticeable lead over the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The most affordable flagship from Apple's latest lineup had 4.1% of the total phone sales throughout the quarter, while Samsung's top-end offering had 1.5%.

Regardless of the market having many great smartphones, consumers seem to be drawn toward Apple's and Samsung's offerings. At least, that's what most of the market research reports point to. Now, when it comes to which one of these two smartphone makers has the lead over the other, Apple's affordable flagship seems to do better. Counterpoint Research's top 10 best-selling smartphones of Q2 2024 offer a much better look into it.

According to the firm's latest sale tracker report, the iPhone 15 has the first spot in the top 10 list, having 4.1% of the total global smartphone sales. The other devices from Apple's latest smartphone lineup have also made it to the list, with the 15 Pro Max capturing 3.7% and 15 Pro having 3.1% of the total sales. They have the second and third spots, respectively.

Counterpoint Research's smartphone sale tracker report from Q2 2024 even has the last-gen iPhone 14. It secured the sixth position with 1.6% of the total phone sales. As for Samsung, it only has one phone from its latest lineup in the list, and it's the Galaxy S24 Ultra. It got ninth place with 1.4% of total sales.

Worth noting this Q2 2024 report doesn't tell much of a different story than Counterpoint Research's Q2 2023 report. Apple also dominated that list, and only the Galaxy S23 Ultra made it from Samsung's last flagship lineup.

Of course, a separate report from Canalys does show that Samsung shipped more phones than Apple in Q2 2024. This report shared that Samsung shipped 53.5 million units, capturing 19% of the total market share. Apple, on the other hand, shipped 45.6 million phones, and it captured 16% of the total share.

Another thing to note is that the Q2 2024 top 10 best-selling phones list only has five flagships. Most of the others are budget smartphones, and only one mid-range device is on the list (128 GB Galaxy A55 curr. $324.99 on Amazon).
