The OnePlus Open (available on Amazon for $1,679) is one of the best foldable smartphones you can get your hands-on. Although it is almost a year old, OnePlus has not announced plans for a successor yet. What it has announced is a new variant called the OnePlus Open Apex Edition that will arrive later this month.
The OnePlus Open Apex Edition will be announced on August 7 and it will come in a new color called Crimson Shadow. The back of the phone will be covered in premium vegan leather with a diamond pattern. It will also have orange accents on the Alert Slider. OnePlus says the finish is inspired by the Hasselblad 503CW 60 Years Victor Red Edition. For context, the OnePlus Open is available to buy in Emerald Dusk which has a glass back and Voyager Black which has a leather finish.
The OnePlus Open Apex Edition is more than a new color as OnePlus also mentions it will boast other upgrades such as ''enhanced storage, cutting-edge AI image editing, and innovative security features''. By enhanced storage, there's a chance it might have 1TB of storage as the standard version has 512GB of storage.
Save for these changes, the rest of the specs and features are expected to remain the same. However, there's a possibility this special edition will sell for a bit more than the standard version which cost $1,699 at launch.
