bHaptics reveals TactGlove for VR, which it will showcase at CES 2022

bHaptics has unveiled the TactGlove, which it claims is the first consumer-ready haptic glove. The company, which was also behind the TactSuit haptic vest, will demonstrate the gadget at CES 2022 next month in collaboration with Hand Physics Lab and Unplugged VR.

Each finger of the TactGlove has a linear resonant actuator, which the gadget combines with hand-tracking technology to deliver the sensation of touch when playing in VR. For example, it appears that you will be able to ‘pick up’ objects and sense them in your hand.

The TactGloves are wireless and provide up to 4 hours of play time between charges. bHaptics describe the gloves as “stretchable” and “lightweight” and list them as having a washable liner. The gadget will come in 3 different sizes to ensure a snug fit.

The gloves will be compatible with camera-based hand tracking systems, which are currently available in devices such as the Oculus Quest 2, and will cost US$299 (~€263) per pair. bHaptics has announced that the developer kit will be available in Q2 2022, with the device becoming available for consumers in Q4 of the same year.
