Xiaomi has announced two new smart lighting products. They offer various control options and can be integrated into a smart home. A highlight feature is the high colour rendering index, which helps objects appear more faithful to their natural colours.

Xiaomi has unveiled two new lighting products: the Xiaomi Smart Ceiling Light D40 and Ceiling Light D30. The two models share the same fundamental design, but they differ in terms of size, brightness and rated power. The D40 measures 450 mm (17.7 in) in diameter, compared to the D30's 350 mm (13.8 in). Both models are 60 mm (2.4 in) thick. According to the specs, the D40 emits 3,000 lumens and consumes 45 watts at peak brightness, whilst the D30 offers up to 1,700 lumens and draws 30 watts. The D40 is designed to illuminate areas of 15 to 25 sqm (161 to 269 sqft), whereas the D30 is suitable for spaces of 8 to 15 sqm (86 to 161 sqft).

Xiaomi claims that both lamps have a colour rendering index (CRI) of Ra 97, with sunlight serving as a reference at Ra 100. The CRI measures how natural coloured objects and surfaces appear under a light source. Higher levels of color deviation could have a jarring effect, causing items like fruits to appear in unnatural colours to the human eye. Both the D40 and D30 have a lighting uniformity above 0.8. Good lighting uniformity enables a light source to illuminate an area evenly.

Both models boast IP50 certification, meaning they are protected against the ingress of dust but not water. Therefore, if used outdoors at all, they would require additional protection from the elements. Equipped with Wi-Fi support, the Xiaomi Ceiling Light D40 and D30 can be controlled using the Xiaomi Home app, as well as Alexa and Google Home. The company hasn’t provided any information about pricing and availability. However, since the products are listed on Xiaomi’s global website, there is a possibility that they may receive an international release, or at least not remain exclusive to China.
