Xiaomi has hinted that it will get into the emerging magnetic wireless charger market soon, with the announcement of what it calls "small inductance + magnetic absorption" technology for the purpose. This should result in new accessories with greater portability and usability during charging while maintaining high maximum rates.
The OEM asserts that its take on such products will solve common problems such as energy loss to heat and poor phone alignment with a new, "17-ring" array of magnets and coils. They should result in "360°" attraction to the coils of a compatible device.
Xiaomi also claims that its new answer to MagSafe allows the user to lift a phone by the charger in question without any fear of damage, as the new magnetic array is rated to withstand up to 800g of connected mass. It is packaged into 2 different prototype accessories thus far: a slim, puck-like charger and a second, thicker counterpart with active cooling.
The former is currently rated for 30W of wireless power, or to charge a 5,000mAh battery in 86 minutes, whereas the latter might go up to 50W (which reduces that time to 49 minutes). It is slated to combine a "semiconductor cooling solution" with a spinning fan, and is thus tipped to cool a phone by as much as 20°C in just 1 minute.
Xiaomi has yet to specify availability or pricing details for these next-gen wireless chargers, although it does assert they are "worth looking forward to" at this point.
