Xiaomi has announced the Smart Camera C500 for the global market. In a listing on its international website, the company describes this model as a “3.5K UHD imaging smart home guardian”.
The Xiaomi Smart Camera C500 delivers video with a 3,200 x 1,800 resolution, thanks to a “professional” 6MP lens with a f/1.6 aperture. It is marketed as providing 360° panoramic coverage of your room, with a 116° vertical view. Plus, the 1/2.45-inch image sensor is said to enhance performance in low lighting, and it also offers night vision using eight 940 nm infrared lights.
According to Xiaomi, the Smart Camera C500 can detect humans and pets. Using the integrated bidirectional gimbal stand, the camera can track movement, automatically returning to its original position once the subject is no longer detected. Other features of the indoor security camera include support for two-way voice calls and a physical shutter, which can be triggered or scheduled, for enhanced privacy. Powered by an MJA1 security chipset, this model supports dual-band Wi-Fi 6 (2.4GHz/5GHz) and Bluetooth 5.0. Footage can be stored on an up to 256 GB microSD, or you can use cloud or NAS networked storage.
The Smart Camera C500 supports HyperOS Connect, allowing it to be connected to other Xiaomi smart home products, and it can also be remotely controlled using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant voice commands. The camera has a white body, measuring 79 x 79 x 119 mm (~3.1 x 3.1 x 4.7 inches). It remains to be seen when the Xiaomi Smart Camera C500 will be released and how much it will cost. Should it launch in Europe, it could be priced similarly to the Smart Camera C500 Pro, which retails for €69.99 (curr. €49.99 at Mi Store).
