Xiaomi has introduced a new version of the Pad 5 Pro. Sold as the Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro 12.4, the tablet has a larger display than its predecessor, making it more comparable to an iPad Pro 12.9 and a Galaxy Tab S8 Plus or Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. Xiaomi has included a larger battery as well as a bigger display, among other changes.

Xiaomi has refreshed its tablet lineup, albeit perhaps not in the way that some people may have expected. Despite there being numerous evidence of Xiaomi developing Pad 6 series tablets, it has elected to release a new version of the Pad 5 Pro instead. Released last year with an 11-inch display, the original Pad 5 Pro also featured a Snapdragon 870 chipset and a 50 MP primary rear-facing camera.

For some reason, the Pad 5 Pro 12.4 retains these latter specifications. However, Xiaomi has swapped out the 5 MP depth of field camera for dual 2 MP sensors. Similarly, the original model's 8 MP front-facing camera has made way for a 20 MP sensor with a 1/3.4-inch optical format, an f/2.2 aperture and 0.8 µm-wide pixels. Incidentally, Xiaomi has arranged the tablet's rear-facing cameras to match the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12S series, along with the new Redmi K50 Extreme Edition.

Additionally, Xiaomi has upgraded the Pad 5 Pro to a 10,000 mAh battery; previously, the Pad 5 Pro featured an 8,600 mAh battery. The battery change coincides with a larger display, which has grown to 12.4-inches. Xiaomi continues to use an IPS panel that outputs at 2,560 x 1,600 pixels, though. Hence, the Pad 5 Pro 12.4 has a lower pixel density, which drops from 274 PPI to 243 PPI. Still, the 12.4-inch display matches its predecessor's 120 Hz refresh rate, as well as its 500 nits peak brightness, its Dolby Vision support and its HDR10 certification.

As such, the Pad 5 Pro 12.4 is larger than the original model, and heavier too. Specifically, the Pad 5 Pro 12.4 measures 285 x 185.2 x 6.7 mm and weighs 620 g. In comparison, the original Pad 5 Pro measures 254.7 x 166.3 x 6.9 mm and weighs 515 g. Separately, the newer Pad 5 Pro ships with MIUI Pad 13, which Xiaomi bases on Android 12. While Xiaomi has not confirmed whether it will launch the Pad 5 Pro 12.4 globally, it has started selling the tablet in China at the following prices in Argent, Black and Moriyama Green colourways.

  • 6 GB of RAM/128 GB of storage - CNY 2,999 (~US$445)
  • 8 GB of RAM/256 GB of storage - CNY 3,499 (~US$519)
  • 12 GB of RAM/512 GB of storage - CNY 4,199 (~US$623)
