The Xiaomi 14T and the Xiaomi 14T Pro were officially unveiled last week. Both smartphones are now available in Germany, with the Xiaomi 14T costing EUR 649 and the Xiaomi 14T Pro at least EUR 799. For a surcharge of EUR 150, buyers receive an upgrade from the MediaTek Dimensity 8300-Ultra to the Dimensity 9300+, 120 watts instead of 67 watts fast charging, 50 watts wireless fast charging and two camera upgrades.
The Xiaomi 14T has a 50 MP f/1.7 main camera with a 1/1.56-inch sensor and a 50 MP f/1.9 telephoto camera with a focal length of 50 mm, while the Xiaomi 14T Pro has a 50 MP f/1.6 main camera with a larger 1/1.31-inch sensor and a 50 MP telephoto camera with a 60 mm f/2.0 lens. The 12 MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera is the same on both devices. In the detailed analysis by DxOMark, the Xiaomi 14T scores 134 points, while the Xiaomi 14T Pro scores just one point more, i.e. 135 points. This is enough for 45th and 49th place respectively on the best list.
This puts both smartphones on a par with the Apple iPhone 14, the Google Pixel 6 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, but the Leica cameras of the Xiaomi 14T series cannot keep up with the current flagships. The Xiaomi 14T scores points with natural color reproduction, accurate skin tones, great depth of field, precise white balance and detailed photos and videos in daylight.
In low light, however, strong image noise is noticeable, despite aggressive noise reduction at the expense of detail. The dynamic range is comparatively small, a color cast is sometimes noticeable in low light, and highlights in the background are unnaturally recreated in portrait mode. In regard to video recording, DxOMark criticizes the inaccurate skin tones and variations in exposure and white balance from one frame to the next under certain circumstances.
