Garmin users can now take advantage of a new AI integration
Garmin wearables users can benefit from powerful and very extensive additional data analysis with Garmin Chat Connector, and do so without a paid Garmin Connect+ subscription. Rob Trent shows the capabilities of the solution using an example.

We have already reported here on Garmin Chat Connector. Put simply, it is an additional way to analyze or process data collected by Garmin wearables, using AI models for that purpose. Customers do not need to use Garmin Connect+ for this kind of analysis, though costs may still apply for the use of AI cloud services. Garmin Chat Connector is not limited to specific smartwatches, so lower-cost models can also be used, though naturally only for parameters that the wearables themselves can record.

Rob Trent, the developer of Garmin Chat Connector, now shows in a recent post how data can be put into context with Garmin Chat Connector. That post can certainly be seen to some extent as promotional, though Garmin Chat Connector itself is not paid software, even if donations are of course welcome. Specifically, Rod Trent shows how the value for maximum relative oxygen uptake is placed into context and critically evaluated through Chat Connector.

More specifically, maximum relative oxygen uptake is estimated. When asked about the expected measurement uncertainty or accuracy, Chat Connector does not respond only with general phrases, but instead analyzes the activities in considerable detail, including the reliability and usefulness of the displayed relative trends. For example, Garmin Chat Connector can indicate that many training sessions, such as during the winter, were completed on a treadmill, while Garmin only includes workouts with a GPS signal when estimating VO2 max. It also describes a possible influence of cadence and points out to users that they have never completed a run at truly maximum effort, meaning all the way to exhaustion.
