Upcoming OnePlus flagship phones once again tipped to feature iPhone-like action button

OnePlus recently announced that it would not launch a foldable phone this year, which means the Oppo Find N5 is less likely to get rebranded to Open 2. While the plans for folding smartphones (256 GB Pixel 9 Pro Fold curr. $1,499 on Amazon) have halted, the company assured that it's still committed to bringing innovation to its future devices.

Speaking of which, reliable tipster Digital Chat Station recently reported that the upcoming Oppo and OnePlus flagship phones will ditch the iconic alert slider. Instead, they are rumored to feature an iPhone-like action button. In a new post, the tipster shared more information about this button.

Digital Chat Station states that this new iPhone-like button could be named "Magic Cube Key." Similar to the action button on iPhone, it will reportedly offer customization options. To be specific, the tipster reports that it can act like a mute key, a trigger to turn the flash on, launch a specific app, or take a screenshot.

This change will likely disappoint OnePlus fans, as the alert slider has been an iconic element for the company's phones. However, the "Magic Cube Key" will stand as a more versatile button than the alert slider. While it's not clear yet, the Oppo Find X8 Ultra may be the very first phone to feature this iPhone-like action button, if the report holds true, of course.

OnePlus' rumored OnePlus mini or the 13T could also be among the first phones to sport this "Magic Cube Key." It may also have the iPhone-inspired camera control button found on the Find X8.
