Nubia presents a Leading Version of the Z60 Ultra, priced from $649, and should impress with an innovative camera system, a faster Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, a 6,000 mAh battery, and a range of AI upgrades.

With the Leading version, Nubia presents a slightly improved version of the Z60 Ultra (approx. $800 on Amazon), which offers four main differences to the older flagship, which we have already been able to test extensively. Firstly, the back is available in one of two new finishes.

Secondly, Nubia has installed a slightly higher-clocked version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, whose ARM Cortex-X4 performance core achieves boost clock frequencies of 3.4 GHz - around 100 MHz more than the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Additionally, new AI algorithms should lead to higher image quality from the cameras. At last, the main camera is equipped with a new Sony IMX 9 series sensor, although Nubia has not confirmed which sensor is used.

The Leading Version of the Nubia Z60 Ultra is also fascinating due to its unusual camera system. The 50-megapixel f/1.59 main camera not only boasts optical image stabilization, laser autofocus, and a flicker sensor, but above all a lens with a 35 mm focal length equivalent to 35 mm, instead of the 23 mm that is now more common in smartphones. If a larger field of view is required, Nubia offers a 50 MP f/1.8 ultra-wide-angle camera with a focal length of 18 mm and a relatively large 1/1.55 inch sensor.

The 64 MP periscope telephoto camera is said to be perfect for portraits thanks to a 35 mm equivalent focal length of 85 mm. The 12-megapixel selfie camera is installed invisibly under the display so that Nubia can do without a punch hole. The 6.8-inch, 120 Hz AMOLED panel achieves a peak brightness of 1,500 nits and the fingerprint sensor is concealed under the panel. With a capacity of 6,000 mAh, the battery is relatively large and can be charged via USB-C with up to 80 watts.

Prices and availability

The Nubia Z60 Ultra with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB flash memory starts from 4,299 yuan (approx. $698). The Nubia website already lists the flagship at prices starting at $649, pre-orders will open today, with deliveries starting on August 12.
