Ubisoft crisis: Insider reveals list of canceled games

Ubisoft has been facing challenges for some time. At the start of the year, the company announced sweeping cost-cutting measures and confirmed that work on six projects had been halted. Until now, it had remained unclear which titles were affected. A new report from , citing internal sources, now sheds light on the situation. A new report from Insider Gaming, citing internal sources, now sheds light on the situation. According to the outlet, Ubisoft has canceled the following projects as part of its restructuring:
- Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake – remake of the 2003 classic, originally announced in 2020.
- Project Aether – in development since 2019, reportedly focused on Ubisoft’s Scalar technology.
- Project Pathfinder – formerly known as Project U, a co-op-oriented multiplayer project with an unclear gameplay loop.
- Project Crest – a World War II extraction shooter with a planned 10-year live service model.
- Assassin’s Creed Rebellion – a previously released mobile title for which support will be discontinued.
- Assassin’s Creed Singularity – an unannounced mobile project with a planned PC version, reportedly in development for several years.
Although many had anticipated the move, the Reddit community reacted with clear disappointment to the cancellation of the Prince of Persia remake. According to Insider Gaming, the project was reportedly already in the final stages of development but failed to meet internal quality standards. Ubisoft appears to have stepped in at the last minute to prevent a weak release from damaging the brand. Fans can only hope that the remake will eventually be revived. Insider Gaming also reports that Project Aether will at least be partially incorporated into a new project.
Overall, the mood within the community is largely cynical. Many view the cancellations not as a bold fresh start but as yet another sign of an ongoing crisis. At the same time, concerns are growing about the company’s remaining brands. What lies ahead for Splinter Cell, Far Cry, or future Assassin’s Creed spin-offs? Ubisoft describes the move as a necessary realignment and a revised operating model. In the short term, the changes will result in further cuts. In the long term, the company aims to sharpen its focus and raise quality standards. Whether this strategy will ultimately succeed, however, will only become clear in the years to come.
