Mass strike at Ubisoft: 1,200 employees protest cost-cutting measures

From February 10 to 12, 2026, at least 1,200 Ubisoft employees walked off the job. The figure was confirmed by Marc Rutschlé, a representative of the Solidaires Informatique union at the company. In addition to several French offices, Ubisoft’s Milan studio is also reported to be participating in the strike.
The walkout was triggered by what the company described as a “final” round of cost-cutting measures announced on January 21. The plan includes studio closures, canceled projects and further layoffs. The union labeled the measures “absurd” and directed sharp criticism at CEO Yves Guillemot. Tensions were further heightened by the reinstatement of mandatory office attendance. An employee who publicly criticized the policy was initially suspended and later dismissed. A recent town hall meeting intended to rebuild trust within the workforce appears to have backfired.
It remains unclear whether the strike will prompt management to make concessions. Reaching a compromise would likely require the company to address at least some of the union’s demands. These include transparent workforce planning, a review of the mandatory office attendance policy and a major overhaul of the leadership team, potentially including the resignation of CEO Yves Guillemot. Within the Reddit community, support largely favors the union. Still, many users remain pessimistic. Some anticipate further layoffs, while others believe the company could ultimately face a takeover.
