The lightweight, compact Asus Zenbook UX325JA also comes with a bright display
The Asus Zenbook 13 UX325JA is a compact, lightweight 13.3-inch subnotebook. Asus has opted to use a metal chassis, which comes in dark gray (Pine Grey) and bright purple (Lilac Mist). A dark-gray model serves as our test device. Its weight is just below 1100 grams (~2.43 lbs).
The thin computer is powered by a quad-core Core i7-1065G7 (Ice Lake) CPU. It offers more than enough performance for office and web applications. The CPU is accompanied by 16 GB of RAM (LPDDR4X-3200, dual-channel mode) - a sufficient amount for the next couple of years. The RAM is soldered and since there are no slots, expanding the system memory retroactively is impossible. However, users can swap the 1-TB NVMe SSD. In order to achieve this, the case has to be opened.
The slimmed-down port selection includes two Thunderbolt 3 ports (Power Delivery, DisplayPort via USB-C) that can be used to charge the laptop. Thus, users have the option to connect a docking station or an external GPU in addition to the included USB Type-C charger.
Thanks to the 67-Wh battery, the runtimes of the Asus system are excellent. Most users can expect real-world runtimes of about 13 to 16 hours, before recharging the laptop becomes necessary. However, this comes at a cost: In battery mode, the CPU performance is reduced.
The IPS Full HD display offers good viewing angles, great colors, a good color space coverage, and a high maximum brightness (up to 400 cd/m²). However, the contrast ratio is somewhat low.
