The less expensive MacBook Pro 13 is the better choice

With the upgrade to the quad-core processor and the Touch Bar, both versions of the MacBook Pro 13 are closer than ever. There are still differences, but the more affordable laptop should be the better choice for the majority of users.

Both versions of the Apple MacBook Pro 13 look basically the same, the only difference is the number and the position of the Thunderbolt 3 ports. On the inside, however, the two are completely different. Apple technical specifications also suggest a pretty big performance difference. Both models are equipped with quad-core Core i5 CPUs by default, but one with a nominal clock of 1.4 GHz and one with 2.4 GHz. The more expensive MBP 13 gets two fans, so the cooling performance is obviously better.

With this in mind, we were pretty surprised by the good benchmark results of the MacBook Pro 13. It can sustain a high processor clock even under sustained workloads. Yes, there is still a gap to the more expensive MBP 13, but the difference is small and not noticeably in everyday situations. The only real difference is the number of TB3 ports and obviously the price. And we recommend you can save the 250 Euros more.

This leaves us with the MacBook Air, which has the same footprint and its case is only slimmer towards the front. It is also a bit less expensive, but in return much slower with its Y-series processor. And you can notice this in practice. The display is also worse compared to the Pro model. So if you are choosing between the two and are ready to pay a bit more, the MacBook Pro 13 is definitely the better choice and you will be better off for the next couple of years.
