The iPhone 13 Pro costs more to build than the Samsung Galaxy S21+
Apple released the iPhone 13 series to much fanfare a few weeks ago. The phones have been hailed for offering solid value and it appears that comes at quite the cost to Apple, with a new report revealing the iPhone 13 Pro's estimated build cost.
According to Tech Insights, the iPhone 13 Pro costs Apple an estimated $570 to build. That's quite a bit more than the iPhone 12 Pro (US$548.50) and Samsung Galaxy S21+ (US$508). It's unknown how much of that is down to the current global chip shortage.
The iPhone 13 Pro bears an MSRP of US$999, the same as last year's iPhone 12 Pro while costing more to build. The estimated build cost translates to 57% of the phone's MSRP; the Galaxy S21+ costs US$999 as well but with a lower estimated build cost. That's rather surprising considering Apple's reputation for having the biggest profit margins across its mobile products.
It's important to note that build costs provided by Tech Insights are typically for the phones' Bill of Materials. As a result, marketing, research, and other such costs are not factored in.
