Vivo is on a roll. The company announced the launch of the Vivo X20 Plus UD last week, a device that was the first smartphone to feature the new under-display fingerprint sensor. Yet another pioneering device may be on the cards for Vivo, as a new leak has surfaced. This one points towards an upcoming flagship that will feature a whopping 10 GB of RAM.
RAM for smartphones has seen an explosive rise over the past 18 months. 2016 flagships like the Xiaomi Mi 5 featured 3 GB of RAM but 2017 saw the advent of smartphones with massive memory. The Asus Zenfone AR was the first device to be announced with 8 GB of RAM but it wasn't launched till months after, at which point the Nubia Z17 had already released. That made the ZTE flagship the first smartphone to hit shops with 8 GB of RAM. Other devices like the OnePlus 5T and Mi Mix 2 have since followed suit.
The new Vivo flagship, the Xplay7 could go above and beyond that, though. A leaked product slide indicates that it will feature a whopping 10 GB of RAM. We're not sure how useful that much memory would be, though, as even on PCs, 8 GB of RAM is just about enough for the average user. According to the same slide, the device could feature a 4K display and a Snapdragon 845. It's also likely to sport an under-display fingerprint sensor.
It's not preposterous, of course. The device's predecessor, the Xplay6 was released back in December 2016 with 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage, and a QHD display. A proper flagship if there ever was one. The Xplay sporting the listed features wouldn't be surprising.
