The Vivo X20 Plus UD is expected to reach the market on January 25, according to tipster Zyad Atef. It will be the first smartphone to feature under display fingerprint scanning, a feature original rumored to appear on the iPhone X. The technology is supplied by Synaptics, which it calls ClearID.
When the Vivo X20 Plus UD reaches consumers, it is expected to retail for around $U625. While that might seem a little steep, it will be fitted with the same large 6.43-inch AMOLED display found on the regular Vivo X20 Plus. However, that model is fitted with a fingerprint sensor on the rear, instead of the cutting-edge technology found in the UD variant.
People who have used pre-production models of the device say that the technology works reliably and sits somewhere between Apple’s Touch ID 2 and its Face ID in terms of speed. The technology only works with AMOLED or OLED tech and uses project light to function. The technology has emerged in line with the rise of bezel-less devices, that have otherwise relied on other methods for authentication.
