According to a purported leak, the OPPO A5 (2020) will have the exact same SoC, screen, battery, and camera as the A9 (2020). The main difference between the two handsets will be RAM and storage: the A5 (2020) tops out at 4 GB/128 GB, while the A9 (2020) can only be configured with 8 GB/128 GB. The price difference is rumored to be less than US $40.

How much would you pay to double the RAM in your phone? OPPO is hoping your number is about US $40. After all, that’s the difference in price between the OPPO A5 (2020) and OPPO A9 (2020), which are rumored to launch in Asia later this month. Based on a spec sheet published by IndiaShopps, the A5 (2020) is essentially the same as the A9 (2020) save for 4 or 5 GB of RAM (based on the SKU).

Like the A9 (2020), the A5 (2020) will run on the Snapdragon 665, will be powered by a 5000 mAh battery, and will feature a 6.5-inch FHD display. However, the A5 (2020) offers less storage and RAM for its cheaper price tag; the handset will ship in two variants. One will pack 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage, and the other will have 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.

Citing its own sources, IndiaShopps pegs the price of the A9 (2020) and A5 (2020) at CNY 1800 and CNY 1500, respectively. That’s about US $250 and US $210, respectively. That’s not a big price difference, especially considering the A5 (2020) may start at US $210; the 4GB/128GB model will likely be a bit more expensive, meaning that the upgrade to the A9 (2020) will have an even lower price delta. If these prices are true, the OPPO A5 (2020) may price itself into obsolescence at launch.

The OPPO A5 (2020) and A9 (2020) are speculated to launch the last week of September in China, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Vietnam.
