Rumor | The Motorola "Edge 20" series will have a Snapdragon 870-powered, 120Hz flagship
Motorola is currently said to have new devices in the works, under code-names like Sierra, Berlin and Kyoto. They are all said to be of a new Edge 20 line, mainly based on rumors that one of them (Kyoto) will debut as the Lite variant of the new sub-series.
That phone is also thought to have 108+8+2MP rear cameras, a detail possibly confirmed in a new and comprehensive leak by @evleaks (or Evan Blass) on Twitter. The "Kyoto/Edge 20 Lite" is also now slated to launch with a 90Hz FHD+ display, driven by a MediaTek Dimensity 720 SoC and 6 to 8GB of RAM.
It may have a 5,000mAh battery, as may 1 variant of Motorola's "Berlin". On that note, this new leak corroborates earlier tips that this phone will have "global" and "NA" versions. The latter may be destined for North America, as Verizon is mentioned in its part of the new spoiler.
This possibly carrier-locked variant is now linked to the same rear cameras as Kyoto, even though "Berlin Global" apparently gets improved 108+16 (wide-angle plus macro)+8MP (telephoto with 3x zoom) shooters. The two also have FHD+ 120Hz screens of different sizes for some reason: 6.78 inches in Berlin NA and 6.67 inches in its international 4,00mAh counterpart.
Then again, they are now both said to run on the same Snapdragon 778G processor, with 6 to 8GB of RAM and 128 to 256GB of internal storage. The "PStar" (which may also conform to the earlier moniker of Sierra) is the flagship of the bunch, however.
It is apparently destined for a Snapdragon 870 SoC, with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Its 6.67-inch 120Hz screen may also be the only AMOLED panel among these "Edge 20s", as the rest may not support in-display fingerprint sensors.
There is also a hint that the "PStar" may also support the new Ready For feature that is Motorola's answer to Samsung's DeX. This makes sense, as the Edge S, which debuted with the technology in early 2021, has the same high-end processor specified in this new tip.
This "premium Edge 20" also has the same rear cameras as the Berlin Global, with the same 32MP central punch-hole selfie shooter as the rest of this putative line (its own Chinese variant being the only exception, with a 16MP sensor instead). All of these new phones are also now slated to run on Android 11.
On the other hand, they all also still lack pricing and availability information at this point. This may be just as well, as they also lack official acknowledgement from Motorola at the time of writing.
