Motorola has been subject to leaks concerning its new Moto G variants already. Their flagship may be called either the G8 or G8 Plus. The latest leak on this subject indicates that it will be powered by the Snapdragon 665 SoC. It may have up to 6GB of RAM, as well as a triple rear camera with a 48MP main shooter.

Motorola updated its popular Moto G series earlier this year. However, rumors of a successor for either the G7 or G7 Plus are already emerging. They suggest that this putative upgrade will be the first of this line to feature a punch-hole selfie camera rather than a display notch. More recently, the XDA has released more information that it claims to have come from a source familar with the development of this new phone.

This source has asserted that the device in question (referred to as the XT2019-1/2) is a Moto G phone, but failed to clarify whether it is going to be the G8 or G8 Plus. By any name, it is apparently now linked to the new-ish Snapdragon 665 SoC also found in the Xiaomi Mi A3 and Realme 5. The "G8" may come with 4 to 6GB of RAM and have up to 128GB of internal storage. This memory is said to be UFS 2.1 rather than eMMC.

The putative G8 is also now rumored to have a triple rear camera. It will consist of a 48MP sensor, of the type in which images are pixel-binned to give high-quality 12MP shots, a 16MP shooter and a 5MP lens that may add depth to the phone's images. The "new Moto" is also now said to have a 4000mAh battery. It may have variants with NFC and dual SIM, as well as others with only 1 of these features and yet more variants with neither.

There is also slightly less plausible detail in this new leak. The source claims that the "G8" will have a 6.3 inch 2280×1080 display with a 19:9 aspect ratio (as opposed to the 21:9 look found in the new Motorola Ones); however, the G7 and G7 Plus have 6.2-inch screens.

It is hard to believe that even a mid-tier device would have such a thin margin of upgrade over a predecessor in 2019. On the other hand, should this conformation hold true at launch, this spec may keep the price of such a Moto G8 at competitive levels this year or next.
