The MediaTek Dimensity 9000 appears to be a superior chipset to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Word on the grapevine leans towards Samsung wanting a piece of that pie as well, with the Korean company potentially geared to equip a non-flagship model with the MediaTek chipset.

Samsung's imminent Galaxy S22 series will be powered by a combination of the Exynos 2200 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 depending on regional models. It appears Samsung may try to adopt the last flagship chipset in the triumvirate, the MediaTek Dimensity 9000, as well.

Nothing is set in stone at this point—it looks to only be noise at this point—but rumors today indicate that Samsung will be featuring the Dimensity 9000 in its smartphone lineup this year. The exact model to adopt the Dimensity 9000 is unknown but as it stands, we could see the MediaTek chipset on its Galaxy A series. Or, perhaps, the Galaxy Quantum3.

Samsung equipping a non-flagship model with a flagship chipset isn't unprecedented. The Galaxy A90 debuted with a Snapdragon 855 in 2019, for example, the same year as the Galaxy S10 series with the same chipset. Samsung also released the Galaxy Quantum2 with a Snapdragon 855+ last year, albeit only in Korea. It wouldn't be surprising to see the Dimensity 9000 on something like the Galaxy A93 this year.

While the Dimensity 9000 is cheaper than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, it outperforms it in most metrics, and we're skeptical about Samsung using a chipset like that on a non-flagship device. Perhaps the Dimensity 8000, then? Again, it's important to point out the fact that most of this just speculation, although leaker Ice Universe purports that Samsung has already made orders for the Dimensity 9000. We'll keep you updated either way.
