The Honor X20 is a new blend of premium and mid-range 5G smartphone specs
Honor's partially global launch was dominated by the new premium Magic3 line. However, they were not the only new ring-cam phones from this brand to be debuted today (August 12, 2021). The Honor X20 5G has been graced with certain aspects of the new flagships and the upper-mid-range 50 series, albeit at a lower starting price and, thus, some compromises.
Like the Magic3s, the X20 has an FHD+ 120Hz display; then again, the panel here is LCD rather than AMOLED as in the flagships. All of these phones also have a long pill-shaped cut-out for the selfie camera, although the X20 appears to have only 1 active 16MP lens on show through it.
The display around it is driven by the new Dimensity 900 SoC rather than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+. Then again, the X20's 4,600mAh battery can charge at the same 66W rate as its higher-end Honor counterparts.
The OEM has also equipped the X20 with triple rear cameras for its large circular hump - even if they comprise a rather standard 64+2+2MP array. Honor has also left the X20 on Magic UI 4.2 based on Android 11 out of the box, rather than the newer 5 version introduced with the Magic3 phones and V7 Pro tablet.
However, at just 1,899 yuan (~US$293) for a base 6GB RAM/128GB model, some consumers might not mind. The X20 is also available in 8GB RAM flavors, at 2,199 yuan (~$339) for one with 128GB of internal storage or 2,499 yuan (~$386) for one with double that space.
The Honor X20 5G will be available in blue, black or silver on the OEM's own web-store from August 13, 2021 in China. Like the Tab V7 Pro, a global release for this affordable new device has yet to be mentioned.
