Tesla's immensely popular electric SUV, which is now being produced in four Gigafactories across three continents, is expected to become the top-selling car in the entire world as its yearly sales numbers could exceed 1 million units in 2023.

Despite the ambitious EV competition coming from China and Europe, the Tesla Model Y is already the best-selling electric car in the world and will most likely generate more revenue than any other car in 2022. However, the electric SUV’s leading role in the upcoming age of electric mobility could soon earn the Tesla Model Y the arguably most important title in the entire auto industry, which is currently held by the Toyota.

The American automaker has now proudly announced that the Tesla Model Y is indeed on its way to becoming the best-selling car in the world. According to Electrek's prediction, this changing of the guard could happen as soon as next year, which is when the electric SUV could surpass the sales numbers of the legendary Toyota Corolla. The Japanese compact car currently accounts for 1.15 million sold units per year. This would be an extraordinary success for the EV pioneer, especially considering the fact that the production of the Tesla Model Y kicked off only two years ago.

In order to meet the extremely high demand for the electric SUV, the Tesla Model Y is now manufactured in a total of four production facilities in Shanghai, California, Texas and the German Gigafactory near Berlin. The automaker asserted that its production capacity would hit one million vehicles by the end of the current year as its Gigafactory Berlin is brought up to speed with the help of newly hired skilled workers. In combination with the recovery of its supply chains, it seems quite plausible that more than 1.15 million Tesla Model Y could be sold in 2023.
