Earlier this year, the American carmaker Tesla made headlines with the grand opening of its new and somewhat controversial Gigafactory near Berlin, the capital of Germany. While the new production site plays an integral role in Tesla’s plans to further increase its EV market share in Europe, many prospective buyers are probably also wonder whether or not there is a quality difference between a Tesla Model Y made in Germany and units of the electric SUV that were made in China.
The UK-based YouTuber RSymons RSEV, who personally owns a Tesla Model Y Long Range produced in Shanghai, has now tackled this exact question. In a recently published video, he discusses and illustrates the small advantages of the electric SUV that was made in Germany. According to the owner, the EV for example has a more comfortable ride quality despite its larger 21-inch rims. The quality of the glossy white paint job is also excellent, but Shanghai-produced Tesla Model Y are supposedly also painted quite well.
Furthermore, the interior of the Tesla Model Y made in Germany features slightly better materials, while the American manufacturer has also improved the speaker system and uses a different amplifier compared to the Chinese unit. The upholstery of the otherwise identical-looking front seats in the Tesla Model Y seem to provide more lateral support, while the new parcel shelf in the trunk is probably the most obvious change in the German-built electric SUV.
Last but not least, it should be noted that Tesla could bring many of these incremental improvements to its Chinese Model Y in the near future. In the past, the electric car manufacturer has gradually introduced such upgrades in its various production sites around the world. However, buyers who are about to take ownership of a Tesla Model Y made in Germany can rest assured that they now own one of the best possible vehicles of this specific type, at least for the time being.
