Despite Nintendo’s efforts to contain it, the infamous Teraleak continues to haunt the Game Freak studio. The 2024 data breach acquired a treasure trove of information about past and future Pokémon games. Days before the Pokémon Legends: Z-A release date, gamers are learning about cancelled features. Also, there are more details on the upcoming 10th and 11th-gen releases (spoilers below).
Pokémon Legends: Z-A may be the most exposed Game Freak project to date. Players can already access an exhaustive list of moves, items, and Mega Evolutions. Prematurely shipped retail copies and a pirated Switch ROM also have unlocked access to the entire title. Still, as reported by Centro Leaks, the Teraleak provides a glimpse into what was cut from the game.
Set in an urban environment, gamers may have been able to jump between rooftops using a PokéRise system. Before reconsidering, players could also have roamed the streets on the backs of certain creatures. With real-time combat available, the developers took inspiration from Splatoon. Sadly for shooter fans, the option for 4x4 multiplayer battles will not appear in the retail version.
Another new Pokémon game, referred to as Gen 10, may debut as soon as 2026. Many rumors had previously surfaced, but the latest Teraleak update has corrected earlier reports. Following the model of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the game would be a dual release, likely called Pokémon Wind and Pokémon Waves.
An island-themed Pokémon adventure
Gamers had speculated that Wind and Waves would be set in Greece. However, it appears that Indonesia and Southeast Asia are the target locations. Explained by Insider Gaming, the settings will involve jungles, with the potential for procedurally generated islands.
Players can expect a fresh battle mechanic labeled as “Weather Moves”. Meanwhile, Seed Pokémon are capable of an unlimited number of evolutions. The 10th-gen Pokémon game may also put an emphasis on MMO-style gameplay. Of course, the developers can always decide to change or remove features before release dates.
With 1TB of documents stolen from Game Freak, there is much more to read about old and new Pokémon games. Nintendo Everything even discusses the first details of an 11th-gen title set in Galar.
