Remedy Entertainment is sounding the alarm on its financials by issuing a profit warning for 2025, stating that its multiplayer shooter FBC: Firebreak has underperformed despite a major overhaul intended to drive player engagement and sales.
Remedy announced on October 10 that the weak sales of its spinoff from the Control universe have led to a significant financial setback, including a non-cash impairment of €14.9 million, which represents most of the development costs and allocated publishing and distribution rights.
While the impairment of $17.2 million doesn’t impact the company’s cash position, it does reflect the game’s inability to meet internal targets after post-launch improvements.
FBC: Firebreak launched on June 17, 2025, across PC and consoles. While it achieved 1 million players within the first 10 days, its commercial performance had primarily been driven by Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus subscription services, rather than direct consumer sales, which is notable in comparison to Steam.
At launch, FBC: Firebreak recorded a peak concurrent player count of 1,992, which was four months ago on Steam. This rapidly declined to under 100 within a month.
In response to player feedback, Remedy rapidly developed and deployed multiple updates, collectively included in its first significant update, Breakpoint, on September 29, 2025. However, it brought about significant improvements in core gameplay.
This produced a small bump in the game’s concurrent players, but the gains were short-lived, with numbers returning to double digits.
Currently, the game still boasts an average player count of 100 players on the platform, indicating that Remedy’s post-launch improvements and commitment to deeper changes have fallen short.
As a result of FBC: Firebreak’s weak sales performance, Remedy has revised its 2025 financial outlook, now expecting a year-on-year revenue increase but operating profit to be negative and below the previous year’s level.
This profit warning comes ahead of Remedy’s next quarterly financial report scheduled for October 29, 2025. Remedy CEO Tero Virtala spoke on the development, “While we balance future investments to the title, we continue developing and improving the game in line with our updated long-term sales forecast.”
It seems Remedy might scale back on major updates for FBC: Firebreak, amid the low player count, considering extensive support for a small player base isn’t viable long-term.
