EA’s latest long-awaited installment in its FPS series, Battlefield 6, has finally been released as of October 10, 2025, across all platforms. The game achieved over 500,000 concurrent players on Steam within just 25 minutes of release and currently boasts a 24-hour all-time peak of 747,400 concurrent players.
Despite these strong launch numbers, the debut has been marred by technical issues, particularly for users who purchased the game through EA’s own app. Many players have reported being unable to access the game, with error messages claiming “missing content” or requiring them to “purchase to play” Battlefield 6, even though they have already bought it.
Complaints have flooded the Battlefield subreddit, X, and Steam forums, where users state they have been sitting idly, enduring lengthy login queues, which is typical of a major release day, and then swiftly being blocked from both multiplayer and campaign.
Even after players attempt traditional fixes, such as repairing game files, reinstalling Battlefield 6, or removing specific files from Campaign mode, or even rebooting their systems, the problem still plagues many.
One player vented their frustration on Reddit:
I’ve been warned about purchasing the game via the EA app, but I tried staying true to the bone, since I already have every other BF I ever bought on there. And now I have spent 1 hour in a menu/shooting range. Done with the settings, now I’d love to play… but I guess I have to keep playing BF4 for a while.
It appears that Battlefield 6’s “purchase to play” error is due to the EA app failing to verify license registrations for the game, flagging Battlefield 6 as unowned.
Electronic Arts has acknowledged the widespread issue on its official Battlefield Comms account on X and has since stated:
“We’re aware of an issue preventing players from accessing the game, with some receiving an error stating they need to purchase DLC or similar. Stay tuned for further updates as the team investigates this issue. Thank you.”
By 4 pm EDT on launch day, the account provided an update, stating, “We believe we have found a possible cause for this issue. We are in the process of validating a potential fix and will provide an update when we have it.”
While Steam users remain unaffected, some EA app users reported that they resolved the issue by refunding their purchase via the EA app and repurchasing the game on Steam or Epic. However, this requires players to redownload the entirety of the game.
