An increasing number of Android phones are launching with the option of connecting to external monitors to leverage their increasingly powerful specs into a more complete PC experience. For example, there is the DeX function baked into One UI from Samsung, an OEM that has approved the new Targus Universal USB-C Phone Dock to work with its software.
This new dock allows a device slotted into it via its type-C port access to a range of others, an HDMI port compatible with external monitors with specs of up to 4K/60Hz included. The dock also has 2 USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports for various uses; SD and microSD card slots and a "replacement" 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port with USB-PD 3.0 pass-through charging, although it is restricted to 18W.
Targus also claims that its new Universal USB-C Phone Dock can help users with video-conferencing, using their phone's rear or selfie cameras. Its (portrait) viewing angle can be adjusted through 60 to 75 degrees while using this feature.
The dock even has an Ethernet port and a headphone jack, for more convincing PC-like functions. Its maker has set its price at US$119.99 and is slated for release in mid- August 2021.
