TCL NXTPAPER 12 Pro launches with a 12.2-inch, 3:2 and paper-like display
The NXTPAPER 12 Pro is the latest member of TCL's NXTPAPER family, with its name offering a clue about the device's features. On the one hand, the NXTPAPER 12 Pro has a 12.2-inch IPS display, which operates at 2,160 x 1,440 pixels in a 3:2 aspect ratio. For reference, the large display sits within a 279 x 192 x 6.9 mm chassis and is part of the reason for the device's 599 g overall weight.
On the other hand, the NXTPAPER 12 Pro contains a special texture over its display glass that provides greater tactility other tablets. TCL combines the coating with an adapted backlight that reduces blue light to create an alleged paper-like feel without relying on an E Ink panel. There are plenty of E Ink tablets running Android though, such as the Onyx BOOX Leaf2.
Elsewhere, the NXTPAPER 12 Pro contains a MediaTek Kompanio 800T SoC, 8 GB of RAM and 2656 GB of expandable flash storage. TCL offers the NXTPAPER 12 Pro with Android 12 at launch, although it remains to be seen whether the tablet will ever receive a major Android OS update. Currently, the NXTPAPER 12 Pro is only available in Russia, where it sells for RUB 34,990 (~US$555). TCL has not confirmed whether a global launch is planned, but it could be waiting for next month's CES 2023 conference before it does so.
