CES 2023 | Lenovo Tab Extreme previewed ahead of summer 2023 release with flagship specifications designed to shake up stagnant Android tablet market
Lenovo has introduced the Tab Extreme, seemingly the company's alternative to the iPad Pro 12.9 and Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. As an errant Google Play Console listing outlined last year, the Lenovo Tab Extreme has a 3K display and a MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset underpinning it. For reference, the latter contains one ARM Cortex-X2 CPU core, plus three Cortex-A710 cores and four Cortex-A510 cores clocked at 3.05 GHz, 2.85 GHz and 1.8 GHz, respectively.
Additionally, Lenovo states that the Tab Extreme has a 14.5-inch OLED display that outputs at 120 Hz with 500 nits peak brightness and a 3,000 x 1,876-pixel native resolution in a 16:10 aspect ratio. In short, the Tab Extreme rivals the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra in size. However, Lenovo has borrowed from Apple with the Tab Extreme Keyboard, which looks the spitting image of a Magic Keyboard. The Tab Extreme also contains the following features, underlining its credentials as a flagship Android tablet:
- Android 13 - 3 OS upgrades/4 years of security updates
- 1x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C
- 1x USB 2.0 Type-C
- 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256 GB of expandable UFS 3.1 storage
- 12,300 mAh Li-ion battery
- Fingerprint and face unlock
- 8x JBL-branded speakers with Dolby Atmos and 4x microphones
- 13 MP cameras (front and back), 5 MP secondary front-facing, RGB rear-facing
Unsurprisingly, the Tab Extreme is on the large side for a tablet. According to Lenovo, the tablet weighs 740 g, or 1.5 kg with its Extreme Keyboard. Although the tablet is a mere 5.85 mm thick, it is over a foot wide at 327.8 mm and is 210.8 mm tall. So far, Lenovo has confirmed that the Tab Extreme will be available this June in Eurozone.
We would not rule out the company from bringing the device to market sooner in other countries though, such as China and North America. Lenovo has confirmed that the Tab Extreme will cost €1,299 at launch too, putting it right between the price of a current iPad Pro 11 or iPad Pro 12.9.
