Suunto's upcoming heart rate monitor gets FCC approval

A new Suunto heart rate monitor has just surfaced in a US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) filing. Listed under the model name SHRM2, the device appears to be a Bluetooth-enabled chest strap rather than a wrist- or arm-based optical sensor and is expected to succeed Suunto's current Smart Heart Rate Belt.

The FCC lisiting mentions a replaceable CR2032 battery, a step up from the smaller battery in Suunto's current model, hinting at possible gains in battery life. A 30-meter water-resistance is also specified, matching the existing belt and pointing to continued swim compatibility. Another highlight is Bluetooth Low Energy support, suggesting that Suunto is shifting to a newer version of Bluetooth.

While the FCC documentation reveals little about additional features or a release date, the appearance of the SHRM2 suggests Suunto is modernizing its chest strap lineup after years without a major update. More details are expected once the company officially unveils the device. Users of other Garmin or Polo smartwatches can find comparable heart rate belts in the Polar H10 or the Garmin HRM 200.
