Despite the recent downtrend, GPU prices are arguably still sky-high, especially in Russia where graphics cards have become even more rare after both manufacturers AMD and Nvidia have stopped shipping graphics cards like the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti (from US$959 on Amazon) to the Eastern European country. Three employees in a Russian warehouse have now tried to take advantage of this dire situation.
According to an article by VideoCardz, three warehouse workers employed by the Russian online retailer named "Wildberries" teamed up to steal a total of twenty Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti desktop GPUs. Unfortunately, the robbers were caught on camera, and a corresponding YouTube video for example shows one hooded employee climbing stairs with several boxes of the aforementioned RTX 3070 Ti graphics cards in his hands. The heist itself was reportedly successful, as the rogue employees managed to escape with the valuable mid-range GPUs.
However, the owner of a local pawn shop later alerted the authorities when the foolish robbers consequently tried to sell their quite unusual quantity of brand-new Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti graphics cards. Apparently, each GPU is currently priced at around 200,000 rubles in Russia, which means that the now confiscated stolen goods were worth a remarkable US$37,000 in total. Needless to say, the heist suspects have also been arrested and won't be able to enjoy the money they could have made with the twenty stolen RTX 3070 Ti GPUs.
