Surface Pro 7 users are reporting random shutdowns and that Microsoft has done nothing about it
The Microsoft Surface Pro 7 may be attractive to users who like the matching Type Keyboard and USB type C ports. However, some less-than-happy customers have started threads and posts on this OEM's official community website pointing out that their units "shut down randomly".
This problem has apparently arisen many months ago, but is still being reported by new users into April 2020. They appear to be constant across all SKUs of the Pro 7, and have sparked multiple threads in the applicable forums. One of these, posted in December 2019, seems to be the most detailed and helpful in terms of potential solutions.
Some of those affected by this bug appear satisfied that a change of default sleep times on this Surface Pro variant (which is set at 5 minutes and might indeed explain some cases), whereas others do not. Various community-evolved work-arounds have been volunteered, including the installation of the latest display drivers (so long as they are from Intel and not Microsoft).
Nevertheless, the thread's members apparently remain dissatisfied with the manufacturer's response to the issue. Microsoft representatives have replied to their comments with assurances that a solution to this Surface Pro 7 problem is on the way, however.
