Microsoft Surface Pro 8 engineering sample powered by Tiger Lake Core i7-1165G7 is up for sale on eBay, chassis unchanged from Surface Pro 7
We have reported before that the Microsoft Surface Pro 8 and Surface Laptop 4 won't be shipping this year but will rather be pushed to a H1 2021 release. However, it looks like an engineering sample of the Surface Pro 8 has managed to somehow get out of Microsoft HQ and land on eBay.
First spotted by Windows Central, the Surface Pro 8 prototype seems to be running an Intel Core i7-1165GG7 processor with 32 GB RAM and a 1 TB SSD. The chassis and display bezels do not seem to be different from that of the Surface Pro 7, at least from whatever pictures have been posted on the eBay listing.
So, all those in anticipation of solar panels on the Type Cover or a Surface Pro X-esque redesign for the upcoming Surface Pro should keep their expectations tempered — in all probability, it's not happening. Buyers can expect only internal hardware refreshes when the Surface Pro 8 eventually launches next year.
This particular sample ships with a blue type cover. From the eBay listing, the seller seems to be based in Seattle, Washington though shipping is indicated all over the United States. In case you do decide to snag one for a starting bid of US$1,300, the seller advises first backing up the drivers for later restoration as they cannot be found online.
