Spotify launches a Lite version of its app for Android
Spotify for Android is a popular route to mobile music streaming worldwide. However, it has just one main drawback: the amount of on-board storage it can take up. The app's files, user data and cache can add up to hundreds of megabytes (MB) in a very short space of time. Its developer has taken note of this, and may have provided a fix in the form of Spotify Lite for Android.
This app has an initial size of as little as 10MB, which is much smaller compared to the conventional version. Once opened, the new version of the Google Play Store download includes a one-touch cache-clear function. This part of the interface takes effect if the user starts to run out of space for all their other apps as well as Spotify Lite.
The new form of Spotify may also benefit those for whom data limits, not space constraints, are a problem on their phones. It contains a setting by which the user can specify how much music can be streamed in the absence of Wi-Fi. Spotify Lite for Android is now available in 36 countries worldwide. It may help the streaming giant improve its market share in the regions involved, which include Asia, the Americas and Africa.
