Sony Xperia 1 VIII leaks with fresh design and 21:9 display

The successor to the Sony Xperia 1 VII ($1,499 on Amazon) is expected to be officially unveiled around June, if Sony follows a similar schedule to last year. Sumaho Digest has already been able to locate several images on the Chinese social network Weibo, which have been sourced from a protective case manufacturer and are said to reveal the design of the Xperia 1 VIII in advance.
As usual, such leaks should be viewed with caution, as it is not yet possible to verify whether the Xperia 1 VIII actually looks like in these images. At least the administrator of the largest Vietnamese Xperia Facebook group confirms that the pictures are relatively close to the final design of the Xperia 1 VIII. If this is the case, Sony is making several major design changes.
First and foremost, Sony is reportedly replacing the pill-shaped camera module with a square module that still houses three lenses and an LED flash. The "Zeiss T*" inscription shows that Sony is continuing its cooperation with the German optics specialist. The comparatively wide edges above and below the display have been removed, but the front-facing stereo speakers have also disappeared along with them, while the selfie camera sits in a punch-hole.
The display has an aspect ratio of 21:9, instead of 19.5:9 as on the previous model. Sony has apparently installed a 3.5 mm headphone jack at the top as usual, while the USB-C port and SIM card slot are located at the bottom. As usual, a dedicated camera shutter button can be seen on the right. Earlier leaks have suggested that the Sony Xperia 1 VIII will be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and with a 200 MP telephoto camera.
