Sony Xperia 1 VIII: Launch details of Sony's new flagship phone surface in the wild

Sony's next flagship smartphone is on the way. As reported yesterday, the Xperia 1 VIII recently surfaced on the FCC's website, potentially indicating an imminent release. Word on the grapevine appears to lend credence to that theory as well.
As leaked on a Vietnamese Sony fan group, it seems the Xperia 1 VIII is being readied to be unveiled in May. While a Facebook group would typically not count as a reliable source, previous Sony and Google flagships have leaked comprehensively on identical pages. To be exact, the Xperia 1 VIII is tipped to launch globally in May, but will not arrive on the Vietnamese market till July.
According to leaker Chunvn888, the Xperia 1 VIII can be expected to land with a slew of upgrades over previous models in the series. For one, the flagship is tipped to finally offer the option of having an eSIM, likely across all variants of the phone. In comparison, last year's Xperia 1 VII only offered that on the XQ-FS54 version sold in Europe.
In addition, the Xperia 1 VIII will supposedly also be available with up to 1 TB of storage, while retaining the microSD slot as well. This will be the first time a Sony smartphone has offered over 512 GB of internal storage. We'll keep you updated on all of this.
