Sony has been teasing the WH-1000XM4 for a few weeks now, and is expected to announce its follow up to the WH-1000XM3 later today. You can watch the "Sony Announcement for Music Lovers 2020" via the accompanying hyperlink, which commences at 11:00 EDT. Sony has not explicitly stated plans to announce the WH-1000XM4 today, but Amazon France and MediaMarkt Belgium have effectively confirmed that to be the case.
Initially reported on the r/SonyHeadphones subreddit, Amazon France briefly listed the WH-1000XM4 for €380.00, which is slightly cheaper than a rumour suggested. The listing has since been taken down, but The Walkman Blog grabbed a screenshot which we have included below. MediaMarkt Belgium got caught running a banner advert for the WH-1000XM4 too, but this directed to an inactive webpage.
Additionally, Digital Trends posted its review of the WH-1000XM4 before Sony's official unveiling. The website has hidden the video for the time being, but it has been re-posted elsewhere. As predicted, the WH-1000XM4 has an IR "wear sensor" for detecting if you are wearing the headphones. This sits within the left earcup. The WH-1000XM4 supports multipoint connectivity too. Battery life remains the same, although Digital Trends claims that Sony has improved high-frequency noise-cancellation. Call quality is unchanged, which is surprising.
