A new software update has begun rolling out to the stellar Sonos Ace headphones. It brings improved active noise cancellation and call clarity and expands its TV Audio Swap feature.

The Sonos Ace has been on store shelves for a year now, and a new update has begun rolling out to make it even better. The premium pair of over-the-ear headphones was announced in May 2024 as Sonos' first headphones, although its launch was marred by the bungled update to the Sonos app.

The new update couldn't have come at a better time considering the Sonos Ace has a new rival in the form of the Sony WH-1000XM6. According to the press release, the new update brings a new feature and improvements to active noise cancellation and call clarity.

When the Sonos Ace debuted last year, one of the unique features it brought was TV Audio Swap which allows users to swap the sound from a compatible Sonos soundbar connected to their TV to the headphones. With the new update, TV Audio Swap will now work with two pairs of Sonos Ace headphones simultaneously and in sync.

Among the features of the Sonos Ace is support for Dolby Atmos with dynamic head tracking. Now Sonos says users will be able to enjoy a realistic surround sound experience based on Sonos' TrueCinema technology which replicates a tuned 3D audio system in your headphones.

The new update also brings enhanced noise cancellation. According to Sonos, the Ace's active noise cancellation will now adapt to users' hair, glasses, and hats in real-time using advanced sensors to compensate for sound leaks. Sonos has also improved the Ace's call clarity and added a SideTone feature which allows users to hear a bit of their voice during calls while ANC is on.

The update has already begun rolling out to the Sonos Ace this week, and if you are yet to receive it, launch the Sonos app, go to the Settings menu, select your headphones under the headphones section, tap on 'Software Updates' in the About section, and tap on 'Check for Updates'.

The app needs to remain open while the update process runs and your headphones need to be close to your smartphone. During the update, the status LED on the headphones will alternate between orange and white, and revert to solid blue once completed.

The Sonos Ace launched for $449 last year but is currently available to buy on Amazon for $329.
