The Solar Lite 2 is a new and particularly affordable smartwatch that comes with an AMOLED display and boasts a long battery life of over two weeks. The smartwatch also has a relatively stylish design, making it a practical everyday accessory not just for athletes.
Haylou is not entirely unknown, as the company's affordable smartwatches and headphones are also widely available at Amazon. The Solar Lite 2 is a new and cheap smartwatch, available through AliExpress. Total cost is just under $38, including free shipping.
For the low price, buyers will get a generally useful smartwatch, although it is not without limitations. As is typical for very inexpensive models, it lacks a GNSS module. So, the distance covered during jogging or running is estimated according to step count and stride length, which is not accurate. Other advertised health features include heart rate measurement and sleep quality monitoring. How accurate these features are is another question altogether and can only be determined by independent testing.
Notifications can be displayed on the Haylou Solar Lite 2, which can also be used as a Bluetooth hands-free device. This is useful, for example, for triggering the camera in certain scenarios such as group photos. Battery life is specified as around 17 days. The display measures 1.43 inches diagonally and has a resolution of 466 × 466. Lastly, the smartwatch is supposedly waterproof up to a test pressure of 1 ATM, which is not really ideal for swimming.
The display can remain activated at all times. (Image source: Haylou)

I have been active as a journalist for over 10 years, most of it in the field of technology. I worked for Tom’s Hardware and ComputerBase, among others, and have been working for Notebookcheck since 2017. My current focus is particularly on mini PCs and single-board computers such as the Raspberry Pi – so in other words, compact systems with a lot of potential. In addition, I have a soft spot for all kinds of wearables, especially smartwatches. My main profession is as a laboratory engineer, which is why neither scientific contexts nor the interpretation of complex measurements are foreign to me.

Growing up in regional Australia, I first became acquainted with computers in my early teens after a broken leg from a football (soccer) match temporarily condemned me to a predominately indoor lifestyle. Soon afterwards I was building my own systems. Now I live in Germany, having moved here in 2014, where I study philosophy and anthropology. I am particularly fascinated by how computer technology has fundamentally and dramatically reshaped human culture, and how it continues to do so.
